C5 Alumni Come Home Again

Type:  Coverage

On Thursday January 5, 2012, we welcomed members of our first 3 graduating classes of our C5 Teen Leadership Program back to Camp Wing to reconnect, reminisce, and have a blast!

The event was organized and hosted by Diandra Butner, a corps member of the Massachusetts Promise Fellow program who is spending a year working with Crossroads for Kids on building our alumni outreach and support programming.

All of the alumni in attendance were thrilled to be back in a place many of them think of as a second home. Stephanie, a member of our class of 2011 and currently a freshman at Edinboro College in Pennsylvania, said that “being far away is such a great new experience and really lets me embrace change, but I love coming back here because even though everyone is changing and growing so fast, we’re still a family.”

Many of the alumni who came back to the Duxbury Stockade come back during the summers in a different capacity- being staff members and mentors for kids who are just like they used to be. Luis, currently excelling as an English major at the University of New Hampshire, said that  he “loves how college challenges me during the year and I get a different kind of challenge every summer coming back to work at Crossroads.”

Coming back and giving back were the main themes of the night. In her introductory remarks to the slide show of old photos, Diandra said about the alumni cohort that “we are the face of Crossroads C5 and it’s so important that we stick together and work to give back to this place.”

It was a wonderful evening of reconnecting with lots of laughter and catching up, as well as a discussion of what this talented and driven group of young people could continue doing to better themselves, their new communities, and their Crossroads family. We are so excited to see where they all go next!
