Youth violence spikes during the summer when kids and teens are out of school. Help keep a child safe this summer and send them to a Crossroads camp.  Not only will you give them a safe place to spend the summer - you will give them tools, skills and a community that can change their lives.

Crossroads Changes Lives - I Know Because They Changed My Life

I first came to Crossroads for Kids 13 years ago when I was 7 years old. Back then it seemed like everyone in my life wanted to be a gangster, including me. I was getting into fights, staying out late and ignoring my homework. All I cared about was hanging out on the corner and playing basketball.

At first, I had a hard time taking Crossroads seriously – I just wanted to have fun. But the older I got, the more I saw my cousins and friends making bad decisions and getting involved with bad things and I realized that Crossroads was my chance to make a good choice for my life.

Today I am a student at UMass Dartmouth where I am studying business and exploring my career options for the future. When I am not in class, I am involved in clubs like the Cape Verdean Student Association, helping to plan cultural events and promote the group among students. In the fall, I will be playing basketball for the university and am excited to be part of the team. During the summers, I come back to Crossroads as a staff member – it is important to me that I give back to a program that gave me so much.

Crossroads is my second family; they are there for me when times are tough, they push me to push myself, and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. Crossroads for Kids has changed my vision for the future. I know I can do whatever I put my mind to and I am going to do everything I can to make sure other kids have a chance to know that too.

Thank you for supporting the 1,000 kids and teens at Crossroads who are part of my family. Thank you for becoming a part of my family.
