A Crossroads Kid... Is Committed to their Education
100% of Crossroads for Kids year-round program participants graduate from high school. 95% of those graduates apply to and are accepted to college each year. Our graduates are the recipients of many prestigious scholarships including The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship and the Jackie Robinson Scholarship. Many of our graduates are first generation college students and attribute their success to the support, encouragement and skills they acquire at Crossroads for Kids.
Is a Community Leader
Crossroads’ kids serve as leaders and agents of change by volunteering in our programs, in their communities and around the world. At Crossroads, we are a community in all aspects. Our curriculum teaches the importance of community involvement and giving back and empowers our kids to be change-makers in the world where they serve as inspirations to others.
Is a Role Model
Crossroads for Kids instills a desire for community outreach in our kids. Many Crossroads Kids work in our programs as junior, seasonal and even full-time staff members. They serve as mentors and role models for kids in the same way their Crossroads mentors did for them. A large percentage of our alumni continue on to work in the human services and education fields as social workers, teachers, principals and guidance counselors.
More About Our Kids
We serve kids from New Bedford to Lowell: approximately 65% come from neighborhoods in Boston, 10% live in Brockton, 15% live on the Cape, 10% live in Lowell/Lawrence and the rest come from towns all over Eastern Massachusetts. Seventy-five percent of the youth we serve qualify for free lunches, 66% come from single parent households, 15% are homeless, and more than 30% have open DCF cases (formerly DSS).
Our kids live in circumstances that increase their likelihood of developing high-risk behaviors which include: violence and gang involvement, dropping out of school, teen pregnancy, alcohol and drug use and abuse, vandalism and other criminal behavior.
