About Dick Gavone

2012 Richard E. Gavone Alumni Award Recipient- Joe Kintigos, Jr.
Joe Kintigos first came to Camp Wing in the early 1960’s through the Boy’s Club in South Boston. He attended camp with many Alumni that are still involved today, and Paul Canty was his cabin counselor and made him eat his vegetables.
Joe transitioned from camper to being a “worker” and his first job was in the infirmary, keeping the logs, cleaning and making sure sick campers got their meals. He then went on to work in almost every position in camp until the mid 1980’s, and quickly became known as the person to ask when you really needed something done.
Joe is a member of our Alumni Committee and one of the most active volunteers at Crossroads for Kids and Camp Wing. Thanks to Joe, Crossroads has strong partnerships with the South Boston Police and the local Duxbury Police, and has also volunteered to help with many volunteer workdays. As Joe always says “it’s important for everything to look nice for the kids”. He takes those words to heart and has taken on countless projects around camp to make sure that campers today have a wonderful summer home.
For almost five decades, Joe has been an important part of the Camp Wing family, and in 2012 he is still our biggest fan and advocate.
