Policies and Guidelines of Crossroads Connects

Camp policies are designed to protect the health and safety of all members of the camp community, and derive from American Camp Association standards. Breaking camp rules could result in fines, and/or being asked to leave camp without a refund. All group members must agree to conduct themselves in accordance with Crossroads Connects’s written and oral policies:

Stay in groups

When on camp campers should not be alone with each other or any staff members. When traveling to activities or meal times they should be accompanied by a chaperone or other staff member.

Please respect the environment

Leave natural objects in their homes so that others may enjoy them - do not take any natural objects from the place you find them. Do not feed animals unless under guidance of Crossroads Connects staff. Stay on trails and outside of fenced areas and off walls and other structures.

Please conserve resources

Close doors (it keeps the bugs out!), close windows (it keeps the cold out!) & turn lights and fans off when leaving a room or building (it conserves the environment!).

Possession of firearms and/or consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs is/are prohibited

Smoking and tobacco products are not permitted

There is a designated smoking area which can be explained upon arrival of an adult group.

Restricted Areas

For your safety, please do not enter program areas or facilities (such as challenge courses, climbing wall, dock, pools) that have not been opened by, or are not under the supervision of, Crossroads Connects staff. Please do not go into the kitchen without the permission of the executive chef or Director of Crossroads Connects.

Adult supervision

Please ensure ratios of 10:1 for groups with participants under the age of 18.

Noise Levels

Please respect our neighbors in the area and other guests. We ask that noise levels are kept at a respectful volume between 10pm and 7am.

Pets are not permitted on camp

Exceptions include working animals, such as guide-dogs which are more than welcome to join us.

Damages

Groups assume financial responsibility for any damages incurred as a result of intentional or negligent action by any member(s) of the group. Fines or charges for the damage of camp property or facilities will be applied to the group’s final bill.

Lost & Found

Crossroads for Kids is not responsible for items lost, stolen or damaged while guests stay in camp. Unclaimed items are kept for 30 days and then donated to local charities. Please call the camp office to report lost or found items.

Open Flames

Open flames are not permitted indoors. Open flames in an outdoor setting must be in a site approved fire pit or ring. Please ask your Director of Crossroads Connects before using any open flame (including candles).

Waterfront

Do not go down to the waterfront unless the waterfront is open and there is a Crossroads Connects lifeguard on the dock. (Please observe the ‘waterfront closed’ sign when there is no program or activity being presented.)  Always wear a lifejacket when on the dock or in a boat.

Cabin Safety

Be careful getting in and out of the top bunks. Always shut the lights and when you are not in the cabin. This saves energy. Please stay out of cabin lofts and off the rafters.

Snacks

The kitchen staff at Crossroads Connects takes pride in offering wholesome meals for students. There is plenty of variety and plenty to eat. In addition, you may choose to have a snack either in the evening before bedtime or in the afternoon between programs. Please ask your chaperones not to bring snacks. Please do not store snacks in cabins. Snacks stored in cabins attract rodents such as mice and squirrels.  Snacks eaten in cabins create an unnecessary mess on cabin floors and on mattresses.  If chaperones still want to bring snacks, please have them bring enough for the entire group and store them in the teachers’ quarters or in the kitchen.

Chaperones

At least one adult chaperone is required per cabin and for each program group. Students must be supervised at all times during your stay. This includes between programs, recreational activities and after lights out in the evening. During meals, there must be one chaperone at each table.

Dining Hall procedures

Prior to each meal there will be an assembly outside the dining hall.  Cabins line up in single file with the counselor standing behind the line.  When everyone is quiet, appropriate announcements will be made.  After the announcements the participants will file quietly and slowly to their tables, keeping their hands off all things on the tables.

Excessive fooling around or aggressive play during meal times will not be tolerated. Such antics should be discouraged by the counselors and chaperones.

Nobody except the waiter (including counselors) should get out of their seat.

If a participant needs to go to the bathroom during the meal, he/she must get permission from the chaperone.

Counselors are not to approach the chef or go into the kitchen. If you have an issue, please bring it to the Directors attention.

All garbage is to be scraped into one oval container.  The plates, bowls, and cups should be as clean as possible before being stacked into the dishpan.  This phase of clean up is essential to clean dishes and the health of all people in camp.  Please give the waiter as much assistance as possible, remember meals go quicker if everybody works together.

When all tables have been sufficiently cleared, announcements will be made by the Crossroads Connects Staff.  Dismissal will be orderly with no running tolerated.  Everybody will be dismissed, table by table, by the Crossroads Connects Staff.  The only people permitted in the kitchen are the Directors and the Kitchen Staff.
